English Coalport part dinner service referred to as the Hay ChinaAccording to the previous owner, this china was made by the Coalport Company circa 1800-1810 to the order of the Marquis of Tweedaleby on the occasion of a banquet given to the Prince Regent during on of George III's mad spells. Also, the whole service was taken at one time over to Berlin for a special banquet. The china passed through five generations of a local Vancouver family. This set can be compared to the supurb 'Star of the Garter' Coalport service at Buckingham Palace, perhaps decorated in London in Baxter's or Mortlock's studio where so much fine Coalport porcelain was painted.
