Original oil painting by Kamesuke HiragaA fine oil painting on canvas titled 'Church in the Glen' by the Japanese/American artist Kamesuke Hiraga (1889-1971). Born in Tokyo, Hiraga arrived in post-earthquake San Francisco in 1907 and studied at the Academy there for five years. He then moved to Los Angeles where he won the Julian prize in 1914 allowing him to study in Europe under Lucien Simon. He was active in Los Angeles into the 1930's. He died in Hamajim, Japan in 1971.
